SUMMARY:Webinar: Rights of Nature & Indigenous Climate Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Join NC WARN and Crystal Cavalier-Keck\, a co-founder of 7 Directions of Service and citizen of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation\, for an education session on climate advocacy through an Indigenous lens\, including the importance of Rights of Nature efforts. Rights of Nature incorporates traditional\, life-honoring Indigenous perspectives into a Western legal framework; these laws strengthen environmental and community protections by evolving the status of nature from “property” to a rights-bearing entity\, like a person. Learn more about how these laws are crucial to climate justice efforts and what a local organization is doing to uplift Indigenous voices in the movement. \nPlease register by November 4th\, 12:00pm (ET): \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Nf4hDTlQT0C2p5eYqu00CA#/registration \n

SUMMARY:Asheville Public Transit Forum
DESCRIPTION:Imagine if taking the bus was convenient\, reliable\, direct\, and easy to access. Could this be the future of public transit in Asheville? Right now\, Asheville is undergoing a redesign of our bus service and our city has an important choice to make about how we want this system to work. If our goal is to get lots of people to ride the bus (high ridership)\, we would run frequent service along the City’s main corridors and remove service to other parts of the city. If our goal is to reach as many places as possible (high coverage)\, we would spread out our bus service to have many routes but with longer wait times. \nIt is not an easy choice. To help understand the impact of the different options and gain community input\, MountainTrue\, in coordination with the City of Asheville\, will be hosting an information session where you can hear from national transit experts from Jarrett Walker & Associates\, review maps of ART’s service area and possible bus route changes\, and discuss community priorities in small groups. Join to talk about this important project and weigh in on what we want our bus service to do for our community and how to get it there. \nCentral United Methodist Church\n27 Church St\nAsheville\, NC 28801 \nFor more info\, visit: https://mountaintrue.org/event/asheville-public-transit-forum

SUMMARY:NC Juneteenth Events
DESCRIPTION:In Galveston\, Texas\, on June 19\, 1865\, a transformative event reshaped American history. It was then that the last enslaved people in the United States finally learned they were free\, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. \nThis pivotal moment\, the true end of slavery\, is honored annually as Juneteenth\, or Freedom Day. For over a century and a half\, Juneteenth has been a powerful beacon\, reminding us of the enduring fight for Black liberation and the vital work that remains on the path to racial justice. \nAs North Carolina honors Black history and resilience this year\, we invite you to explore some of the exciting events planned across the state. \nSee the list of state-wide events here >> \n

SUMMARY:Community Air Sensor Workshop (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The Community Air Sensor Workshop was created to continue the critical discussions and knowledge-sharing around emerging air sensor technology\, especially in light of the cancellation of the U.S. EPA Sensor Workshop 2025. While that event will no longer take place\, our virtual workshop provides a collaborative space for experts\, organizations\, and community members to exchange best practices\, explore innovations\, and advance air quality monitoring. Through interactive sessions\, hands-on workshops\, and open discussions\, we aim to empower communities with accurate\, accessible air quality data—driving innovation and informed decision-making for a cleaner\, healthier future. \nThis event is completely free and organized entirely by volunteers who are passionate about advancing air quality monitoring and making sensor technology more accessible. Our goal is to ensure that knowledge and collaboration remain open to all. We appreciate the dedication of our organizers and contributors\, whose efforts make this workshop possible.
