SUMMARY:NC Juneteenth Events
DESCRIPTION:In Galveston\, Texas\, on June 19\, 1865\, a transformative event reshaped American history. It was then that the last enslaved people in the United States finally learned they were free\, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. \nThis pivotal moment\, the true end of slavery\, is honored annually as Juneteenth\, or Freedom Day. For over a century and a half\, Juneteenth has been a powerful beacon\, reminding us of the enduring fight for Black liberation and the vital work that remains on the path to racial justice. \nAs North Carolina honors Black history and resilience this year\, we invite you to explore some of the exciting events planned across the state. \nSee the list of state-wide events here >> \n

SUMMARY:NC Climate Week: Sept 29-Oct 3
DESCRIPTION:This September\, EarthShare NC returns with the 2nd Annual NC Climate Week—equipping individuals\, businesses\, nonprofits\, and governments to work individually and collectively on climate solutions and resilience across North Carolina. \nWe’re talking about proven solutions and discussing how to deploy them across every sector. \nThrough five days of virtual learning\, one-on-one consultation sessions\, and community engagement\, NC Climate Week transforms climate concern into collective local impact. Every session delivers immediately implementable strategies designed to work in and for our communities. \nThe week culminates in the Summit in Greensboro\, hosted in partnership with the City of Greensboro Office of Sustainability and Resilience. SUMMARY:Asheville Public Transit Forum
DESCRIPTION:Imagine if taking the bus was convenient\, reliable\, direct\, and easy to access. Could this be the future of public transit in Asheville? Right now\, Asheville is undergoing a redesign of our bus service and our city has an important choice to make about how we want this system to work. If our goal is to get lots of people to ride the bus (high ridership)\, we would run frequent service along the City’s main corridors and remove service to other parts of the city. If our goal is to reach as many places as possible (high coverage)\, we would spread out our bus service to have many routes but with longer wait times. \nIt is not an easy choice. To help understand the impact of the different options and gain community input\, MountainTrue\, in coordination with the City of Asheville\, will be hosting an information session where you can hear from national transit experts from Jarrett Walker & Associates\, review maps of ART’s service area and possible bus route changes\, and discuss community priorities in small groups. Join to talk about this important project and weigh in on what we want our bus service to do for our community and how to get it there. \nCentral United Methodist Church\n27 Church St\nAsheville\, NC 28801 \nFor more info\, visit: https://mountaintrue.org/event/asheville-public-transit-forum

SUMMARY:Carbon Plan Rally & Public Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Every two years\, Duke Energy customers have the opportunity to speak directly to the North Carolina Utilities Commission about Duke Energy’s Carbon Plan and how it affects our lives\, our families\, and our communities. This rally and hearing are a call to action. We are urging Commissioners to require Duke Energy to invest in clean\, renewable\, and affordable energy—not expand dirty fossil fuels. \nFossil fuels force ratepayers to pay twice: once through rising utility bills and again through impacts on our health. They pollute our air and water\, accelerate climate change\, and strain our communities economically and environmentally. \nWe will gather peacefully\, respectfully\, and with conviction. Together\, our voices can demonstrate that a cleaner\, safer\, and more just energy future is not only possible—it is necessary. \nCarbon Plan Rally & Public Hearing\nDemand Clean\, Affordable Energy for North Carolina\nMarch 18\, 2026 \nSchedule:\nRally: 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM (outside the courthouse)\nPublic Hearing: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Courtroom 5350) \nLocation:\nMecklenburg County Courthouse\n832 E 4th St\, Charlotte\, NC 28202 \nParking:\n232 S Davidson St\, Charlotte\, NC 28202\nParking should be no more than $11 for the day\, followed by a short two-block walk to the rally location around the back of the courthouse in the square. \nTo help our organization track attendance\, coordinate our efforts\, and ensure we have a strong presence at hearings across the state\, please fill out this quick form if you plan to attend a hearing in a city near you.
