Priority Issues

One of the most effective ways to improve the environment and air quality across North Carolina is through policy. This is also how we protect people’s rights to a clean and healthy environment. We actively pursue inclusive legislation, litigation, and coalitions that reduce air pollutants and climate change to benefit all communities.

The Carbon Plan

We believe the state must establish a robust Carbon Plan that rapidly transitions North Carolina to a clean energy economy. Given the urgent state of the climate emergency, state regulators must investigate and choose the best path that reduces carbon emissions as quickly as possible, while also minimizing cost and ensuring equity.

Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO)

In eastern North Carolina, most Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations or CAFOs are located in historically under-resourced communities of color. Duplin and Sampson Counties have more hog CAFOs than anywhere else in America. Many families have lived with air and drinking water contaminated by animal waste for generations. We believe everyone has the right to clean water and healthy air.
