ACTION: Tell Governor Stein to Prioritize Clean Transportation!

Add your name to our letter to the Governor

CleanAIRE NC has partnered with SELC to take a stand for a cleaner, more connected North Carolina. We’re asking Governor Stein to make bold moves on clean, affordable, and community-centered transportation, and we need your help!

Join us by adding your name to our letter to the Governor. It thanks his administration for their engagement and strongly urges them to fully implement the state’s Clean Transportation Plan.

In our letter, we specifically ask Governor Stein to:
  • Strengthen the goal to cut vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by 20% per capita by 2050.
  • Prioritize funding for transit, biking, and walking to improve safety, reduce traffic, cut pollution, and revitalize neighborhoods.
  • Ensure local communities have a stronger say in planning, leading to solutions that truly work for the people they serve.

Add your name to show your support. Please share with others who care about building a healthier North Carolina.

Help Shape the Future of Transportation in Your Community

Looking for more ways to get involved? North Carolina is planning for the future of roads, transit, bike paths, sidewalks, and more—and your voice matters.

What is “P8”?

The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) uses a process called “SPOT” (Strategic Prioritization of Transportation) to decide which transportation projects get built. We’re now in Round 8 (P8) of that process. Projects are ranked based on data (like congestion, safety, and cost) and public input—that’s where you come in.

What Kind of Projects Are We Talking About?

  • Highway and road widenings
  • Public transit routes and hubs
  • Sidewalks, greenways, and bike lanes
  • Safety improvements and bridge repairs
  • Rail, ferry, and aviation improvements

How Does Public Comment Help?

Your feedback helps local planning organizations, called Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Rural Planning Organizations (RPOs), decide:

  • Which projects to submit for funding
  • Which projects are most important to the community
  • How to shape the final priorities before they’re scored

Why Should I Care?

Because it affects:

  • How long it takes to get to work or school
  • Whether your neighborhood has safe sidewalks or bike lanes
  • If there’s a reliable bus stop near you
  • How your town grows and changes

How Can I Get Involved?

  1. Find your MPO or RPO and see which projects are proposed.
  2. Review the project list or map.
  3. Submit a comment online, at a meeting, or through a survey.
