CleanAIRE NC to Bring Powerful Environmental Justice Documentary “The Smell of Money” to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CleanAIRE NC will host a special, free film screening of The Smell of Money at Charlotte’s Independent Picture House on Sunday, October 9, at 4:00 PM.

The Smell of Money takes a hard look at the pork industry’s impacts on rural communities in eastern North Carolina. The documentary weaves together stories from Duplin County families across generations living with air and drinking water contaminated by pig feces and urine.

The Smell of Money challenges the false narrative that harmful factory farming practices are needed to provide us with food and well-paying jobs, while asking us to consider who pays the price for this corporate greed. Ultimately, it’s the story of a community rallying together to fight for their rights to clean air, clean water, and environmental justice.

A panel discussion will follow the screening, moderated by Jeffrey Robbins (Executive Director, CleanAIRE NC). In addition to CleanAIRE NC, the screening is co-sponsored by Catawba Riverkeeper and Waterkeeper Alliance.

The event is free to attend, but seats are limited. Tickets can be reserved at https://cleanairenc.org/event/smellofmoney.
