On October 24th, Governor Cooper signed Executive Order 292, a win for environmental justice communities in North Carolina. This landmark action was made possible by your unwavering commitment and engagement on this critical issue and will amplify environmental justice initiatives across our state.
Our Executive Director, Jeff Robbins, was honored to stand with Governor Cooper last month, alongside colleagues Amanda Strawderman and Daisha Wall. They represented not only CleanAIRE NC but everyone who shared their perspectives and stories with the Governor over the past year. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with NC communities and the Governor’s administration on further initiatives to promote an equitable and sustainable future for all.
We commend Governor Cooper’s leadership and vision in recognizing the urgent need to prioritize environmental justice and actively take steps to achieve equitable outcomes for all North Carolinians. Among other things, the order creates a new advisory council to strengthen inter-agency coordination, bringing more perspectives and resources toward environmental justice solutions.
We also want to thank the thousands of North Carolinians who weighed in on how our state should advance environmental justice. Whether you attended listening sessions, responded to the Governor’s public surveys, or wrote letters, your actions helped shape an Executive Order focused on the issues that matter to you and your community.
