Natalie Smith

Community Science Manager

Natalie brings her background in atmospheric chemistry and air quality research to support community-based environmental health initiatives at CleanAIRE NC. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Chemistry from Appalachian State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.

Before joining CleanAIRE NC, Natalie led the Community Air Toxics (CAT) Mobile Lab at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, focusing primarily on real-time air monitoring within disproportionately impacted communities surrounding oil and gas facilities in Colorado. She has contributed to air quality research with various institutions, including NASA, the U.S. EPA, and other universities. Passionate about science outreach and environmental justice, she strives to make air quality science accessible and actionable. Outside of work, Natalie enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and spending time in nature, activities that inspire her dedication to protecting clean air and the environment.
