How the Training Works

ecoAmerica has redesigned the Climate Ambassadors program to be accessible and flexible, allowing participants to progress at their own pace. Through a series of thematic modules, you will delve into the intricacies of climate change, its impact on North Carolina and our communities, and how communities can work together to create sustainable solutions.

Each module is expertly curated to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter while empowering you with practical tools and strategies to inspire real change. From understanding the science behind climate change to learning effective communication techniques, the training equips you with the resources to become a powerful advocate for your community.

Connecting Leaders, Amplifying Impact

Once you have successfully completed all the training modules, you will receive certification as a Climate Ambassador and be connected to a statewide network of fellow Climate Ambassadors. This network will serve as a platform for ongoing collaboration, idea-sharing, and mutual support as you continue to champion climate literacy and leadership within your community.

Our Climate Ambassadors span a wide range of career paths, including doctors, air quality professionals, K-12 teachers, students, interested parents, researchers, community leaders, retirees, and more!

Please note that if you have already completed our previous Climate Ambassadors training course, you do not need to complete the training again. While there’s no requirement to take the training again, it’s a good refresher and contains up-to-date information.

A Personal Journey of Impact

We always love to share the inspiring stories of Climate Ambassadors and the impact they’ve been able to make on their communities and careers. Shruti Agrawal is a senior at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte and a partnerships associate at CleanAIRENC.

Shruti began her sustainability journey with a middle school science fair project. The idea for the project was to promote eco-conscious thinking through behavioral challenges, such as taking shorter showers or using reusable straws. The project was a hit, and as its momentum grew, Shruti eventually used it to found a new student-run environmental nonprofit, New Normal X.

While many high school activities revolve around college aspirations, Shruti argues that sustainable thinking should transcend college majors with real-world applications for every career path. When she discovered the NC Climate Ambassadors Training Program, she saw it as a perfect fit with her career goals and immediately signed up.

This “transformative experience,” as Shruti calls it, equipped her with new advocacy and marketing skills and a network of diverse professionals across North Carolina. One breakout session revealed a startling link: a doctor shared how his work with mental health intersected with the profound effects of climate change. The connection between these two fields astonished the then-high school sophomore, who shared it with her pre-med sister, equally surprised by the connection.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, Shruti, a future business administration major, saw the exciting intersection of the business world and environmental advocacy. She began expanding New Normal X, recruiting new student leaders to spread awareness. Witnessing each team member’s unique contributions solidified Shruti’s belief in the power of teamwork, leadership, and communication.

Shruti’s experience highlights the profound impact of the NC Climate Ambassadors training. This deep dive into environmental science, advocacy, and justice can reshape anyone’s educational or career path in powerful ways. If you are interested in climate or sustainability but aren’t sure where to start, Shruti encourages you to explore this program. Just a few hours can unlock your true calling and empower you to create positive change.
