This new charging station is a significant step forward in the ongoing Historic West End Green District campaign, a comprehensive plan to establish a sustainable and equitable community within the neighborhood. The dedication ceremony will celebrate this milestone and offer residents a chance to learn more about the benefits of electric vehicles and the Historic West End Green District project.

“Expanding access to EV charging infrastructure is critical for advancing environmental justice and promoting a cleaner future for all Charlotte residents,” said Mike Anderson, Vice President of Go-Station. “This new station in the Historic West End will not only reduce emissions and improve air quality, but also make electric vehicles a more viable option for residents, empowering them to make eco-friendly choices.”

The highlight of the event will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the new charging station to the public. The ceremony will also unveil new artwork created for the installation by local artist Sala Faruq.

“As a Historic West End resident, I’m honored to be selected to create art for this electric vehicle charging station, which serves as a beacon of hope for our communities,” said Sala Faruq. “The images I have chosen for the artwork have specific meanings. The children denote optimism for the future. The pillar pays homage to our community. The map represents the connection to broader state and city environmental initiatives. And the dogwood flowers and tree branches represent renewal.”

The resident-led Historic West End Green District initiative is a collaborative partnership between community leaders and CleanAIRE NC to reduce air pollution, improve health, and build a climate-resilient community. Components include engaging neighborhood residents in Education and Advocacy training, local air quality monitoring with portable sensors, and implementing green infrastructure needs such as living green walls, EV charging stations, green bus shelters, strategic tree planting, and solar community projects.

The installation of the new EV charging station aligns perfectly with the Green District’s goals of reducing emissions and fostering a more sustainable future for the community. This is the fourth EV charging station installed in the Historic West End since the first phase of the Green District began in 2021. Stations are also located at 2315 Lasalle Street, 1201 Beatties Ford Road, and 2035 Patton Avenue.
